What did your Valentine’s Day box look like in elementary school?
A shoe box covered with construction paper confetti? A HUGE hand-made envelope stapled to the bulletin board? Mine always looked ridiculously tacky because I would over-do on the glue and glitter…or is that even possible?
If I was a kid now, I’d want Dr. Who valentines—do they even make those? Or maybe Hunger Games—ok, death may not be a great valentine theme…
Anyway, I love that kids are still making boxes for the school’s Valentine’s exchanges—and I love, even more, that EVERYONE gets a Valentine.
When did we stop doing that? When did we stop giving EVERYONE a Valentine’s Day card? Even more importantly, why did we stop?
What if we had never stopped?
What if we still made sure everyone had a great Valentine’s Day? I believe in celebrating love and friendship between everyone. How much sweeter of a place would the world be if everyone shared a little love with those around them?
Seriously, people—stand up for your right to tape a piece of candy or gum on a cute little 5 cent card and make someone’s day! They might not have a decorated shoe box set out to ‘receive’ your token of love and appreciation which may even make your valentine gift to them even more special.
So, YAY it’s Valentine’s Day. As I give and receive dumb cards with Jolly Ranchers and Smarties taped on, I boldly reclaim February 14 for everyone! And never forget, at least Valentine’s Day means that we are only one day away from half-priced chocolates…
